Glaucoma Symptoms, treatment and prevention

diagnosis and treatment

Glaucoma has a lot to say, but do you really know what it is?

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye disease that affects the optic nerves of your retina, which is the nerve responsible for transmitting images to your brain .

When fluids continue to build up in the front part of the eye, it causes pressure in the eyes (intraocular pressure) which later damages the optic nerve .

If this damage occurs, glaucoma can cause permanent vision loss and, without treatment, can cause total permanent blindness within a few years.

Most people with Glaucoma do not know that they have this disease because it has no early symptoms. You just need to see your eye doctor regularly so that he can diagnose and treat glaucoma before a visual loss occurs .

But in general, has two main types, each of which has different symptoms .

Whay is Types of Glaucoma ?

1- Open-Angle :

Open-Angle
Open-Angle Glaucoma

Open-angle is also referred to as primary or chronic glaucoma. It is considered to be the most common form of glaucoma represented in at least 90% of all cases:

  • This is caused by the gradual blockage of the drainage canals, resulting in increased eye pressure at a high rate.
  • Has a very large and open angle between the iris and the cornea
  • Developing gradually and is a permanent  condition
  • Some signs and effects not found. So if you’re suffering from this form of glaucoma, you won’t notice it immediately, so it’s best to see your ophthalmologist regularly.

Open-angle means that the angle where the iris meets the cornea is as wide and as wide as it should be. It is the most common type of glaucoma affecting most patients with glaucoma.

2- Angle-Closure :

Angle Closure
Angle Closure

A less common type  also called acute or narrow-angle :

  • It results in a sudden increase in intraocular  pressure
  • Has a narrow or closed angle  between the iris and the cornea.
  • Develops very quick
  • Has signs and symptoms that are typically very obvious, you can feel pain, blurred vision, redness of the eye, and vomiting.
  • Urgent medical attention is required.

In comparison to open-angle , angle closure  is the result of the angle between the iris

and the closing and narrowing of the cornea .

Are you at risk of Glaucoma?

Everyone’s at risk for glaucoma. Nevertheless, some individuals are at higher risk than others. If you are over 40 years old, this is not the only explanation for your diagnosis of Glaucoma. It could be inherited from the ancestors .

So, if you have a family history of Glaucoma, it is recommended that you see an optician every year. You are also at risk of being diagnosed  if you have complications with your heart, such as diabetes .

diagnosis and treatment :

All medications and surgery have high rates of success in the treatment of glaucoma, but you can protect yourself and prevent irreversible vision loss by closely pursuing your doctor’s treatment plan.

For example, some patients can find it difficult to follow a daily routine involving two or three different eye drops per day. Make sure to tell the doctor about any other medical problems you have or any other medicine you are taking due to potential drug reactions and side effects. If eye drops cause the eyes to become red, consult your doctor immediately.

Laser treatment  is generally the perfect solution. It is considered lifelong and does not require long-term therapy .

Additionally, the unaffected eye is usually treated to prevent future threats or dangerous incidents. Nonetheless, it is important to check your eyes regularly .
